How to install a new printer to the LPT printer or parallel port.
IMPORTANT: This procedure must be performed while logged in as Administrator or to an account with Administrator rights.
NOTES:
- Check the printer manufacturer's Web site for the latest drivers for the Windows XP operating system before proceeding. Some printers do not function properly without updated drivers.
- If the specific third-party printer requires a Setup or Install program to install properly, contact the third-party printer manufacturer for the proper installation procedure.
- Connect the printer cable to the appropriate port on the computer.
- Turn on the printer.
- Click the Start button then click Control Panel.
- In the Control Panel window, double-click the Printers and Other Hardware icon.
- In the Printers and Other Hardware window, under Pick a task... , click the Add a printer button.
- In the Add Printer Wizard window, click the Next button.
- In the Network or Local Printer window, click to select Local printer... .
- Click to clear the Automatically detect and install... box.
- Click the Next button.
- In the Select a Printer Port window, click to select Use the following port: .
- Click the down arrow and click to select LPT1: (Recommended printer port).
- Click the Next button.
- In the Install Printer Software window, select the appropriate printer.
NOTE: If a new driver has been downloaded or was included with the printer, click the Have Disk... button, and type the appropriate path.
- Click the Next button.
- In the Name Your Printer window, click the Next button.
NOTE: If another printer driver is installed, the option to make the new printer the default printer will be available. This will also occur if the other drivers installed are for a fax application or a PDF writer.
- In the Print Test Page window, click the Next button.
- In the Completing the Add Printer Wizard window, click the Finish button.
- In the A test page is now being sent... box, click the OK button.
