Get sound from your TV speakers and headphones at the same time

IMPORTANT: Some Android TV™ models released after 2018 have different specifications. If your TV is listed below, refer to the article for No sound from the TV speakers and headphones or audio device when used at the same time.

    • 2021: X79J/X80J/X85J, X90J/X92J (50-75, 100), X95J, Z9J, A80J/A90J series
    • 2020: X800H, X810H, X850H, X900H, X950H, Z8H, and A8H series
    • 2019: X850G, X950G, A9F, and Z9F series
    • 2018: A9G and Z9G series

In order to hear sound from headphones and the TV speakers at the same time when watching your TV, the source device must have multiple audio outputs.

Note: Some TV models can't output sound from both the headphones and the TV speakers at the same time. Check your device manuals for model-specific information.

    Connect the devices

This is a basic connection with wireless or wired headphones. If you use a device that shows a different connection, check your device manual for more details.

    1. Make sure the source device has multiple outputs.

    2. Connect the source device to your TV.
      • Use an HDMI® connection for the best image and audio quality.
    3. On the back of the source device, connect one end of the audio cable to the AUDIO OUT jack.

    4. On the back of the transmitter of the headphones, connect the other end of the audio cable to the AUDIO IN jack.

      Note:

      • The input terminal label varies depending on the RF headphone model. Check your manual for model-specific information. Manuals are posted on your model support page.
      • Wireless headphones generally require a power connection. Check your manual to determine if it requires batteries or AC power connection.
      • Some headphones require a stereo mini plug connection instead of the common red and white composite connection. You may purchase it at most electronic retailers if it didn't come with your unit.

    5. Turn on your TV and set it to the input of the source device connected in an earlier step.

    Adjust the TV setting

Older TV models don't come with the 3.5mm headphone output jack, so they don't have the Headphone speaker link option in the menu. For these TVs, the option for audio output would either be TV Speakers or Audio System.
