This Questions and Answers explains frequently asked questions about the Spatial Reality Display, ELF-SR1. In addition, please also refer to the following Developer Site and article.
Questions and Answers
Q1. The screen is not displayed (screen is black).
A1. Check the status of the indicator next to the Power switch on the front of the device.

- If the indicator is not on
The power may be off. Check the AC adapter connection, and then press the Power switch. - If the indicator is orange
If there is no signal, it may be in standby mode (MENU button on the front of the device → Automatic shut-off → on (default setting)). Check the signal from the input device such as the connected computer. - If the indicator is flashing orange
Unplug the power plug from the outlet, wait for a while, and then plug it back in again. If the indicator continues to flash, check the number of flashes and contact the Sony customer center.
Note: This device detects the user's face with an Eye-sensing sensor on the camera, recognizes the user's line of sight, and displays an optimized image. Therefore, if faces can't be detected, the screen will remain black. When viewing, it may be difficult to recognize faces due to masks or hats.
Q2. What to do if the image (video) does not appear to be 3D
Q3. Sometimes the image (video) doesn't appear to be 3D. / Image (video) doesn't follow my face (face detection is not working correctly).
Q4. Sometimes the image (video) doesn't appear to be 3D. / Image (video) takes a second to follow my face (face detection is working correctly).
Q5. The screen is on but there is no sound.
A5. Check the following settings.
- On the computer
- Make sure that the Spatial Reality Display is selected as the output destination in the Windows sound settings.
- Check the audio format of the content you are playing. The only formats that can be played on this device are "32K/44.1K/48KHz L-PCM".
- On the device
If the volume level of the device is 0 (zero) or very low, you will not hear any sound from the speakers. Use the +/- buttons on the front of the device to adjust the volume.

Q6. This signal is not supported is displayed on the screen
A6. On the computer, check if the input signal resolution (Display resolution) is supported by this device.
Supported resolutions:
- 3840x2160p (60Hz)
- 720x480o (60Hz) (2D display only)
- 640x480p (60Hz) (2D display only)
If an input signal has a frequency other than the above, This signal is not supported is displayed on the device. (Depending on the image and frequency, an image may appear in the background.)
Note: If the resolution on the computer is set to full HD (1920x1080), Windows may automatically upscale the image and output to this device in 4K. In such cases, no message will be displayed on this device. Please note that this is also one of the causes of the absence of 3D effects.

Q7. When displaying 2D text and images, the display looks blurred.
A7. This device has a special lens (micro optical lens) on the front of the LCD for 3D display. Therefore, when displaying in normal 2D (displaying the normal desktop or application screen of a computer), the image will not be correct and the colors will appear to blur or bleed out.
Q8. What is the HDCP version?
A8. The HDCP version is 2.3.
Q9. Can it be used as a normal computer monitor?
A9. Since this device is a dedicated for 3D display, it cannot be used as a normal 2D computer monitor.
Note: This device has a special lens (micro optical lens) on the front of the LCD for 3D display. Therefore, when displaying in normal 2D (displaying the normal desktop or application screen of a computer), the image will not be correct and the colors will appear to blur or bleed out.
Q10. What is the USB version?
A10. It is USB 3.2 Gen1 (old standard name: USB 3.0).
Note: Use the USB cable included with this device when connecting to the USB port of your computer.
Q11. Failed to find Spatial Reality Display device. is displayed and the application doesn't start. / No response on the Spatial Reality Display. (Even if the 3D content file generated by the SDK is executed on the computer.)
A11. It may be due to a poor USB connection. Try the following to improve the issue.
- Plug and unplug the USB cable.
- Try connecting to another USB 3.0 port (USB 3.2 Gen1) on the computer.
- Restart your computer.
Q12. Nothing happens when a 3D content executable file (generated by the SDK) is executed on the computer (the application created for the Spatial Reality Display does not start).
A12. Check the followings.
- Is the HDMI cable connected to both the computer and this device?
If so, disconnect and reconnect the cable to see if the issue improves. - Is the USB cable connected to both the computer and this device?
If so, disconnect and reconnect the cable to see if the issue improves. - Check if this device is turned on or if the power cord is securely plugged.
- Make sure that the Software Development Kit (SDK) is installed on Unity or Unreal Engine 4 (UE4) for the computer. The SDK is available on the SR Display SDK Download website.
- Make sure that the application has not been launched twice (example: multiple 3D content executable files generated on the computer are executed consecutively). If this may be the cause, close all apps that have been executed (the screen started with the generated executable file) and try again.
Q13. What is Text to speech?
A13. This device has a text reading function called Text to speech, which vocalizes setting menus and values.
Note: The available language for the Text to speech function is English only.
- How to activate Text to speech
- Press the MENU button next to the Power switch to display the menu.
- Press the MENU button four times in a row to select Text to speech.
- Press the + or – button to turn ON the Text to speech function.
- The Text to speech function reads the following values/items:
- Message (No signal, Unsupported signal)
- Volume
- Setting menu (HDMI audio will be muted while the Text to speech function is active)
- Brightness
- Contrast
- Language
- Auto shut-off
- Text to speech
- Information (Model name, Serial no, and Software version) by pressing the MENU button again after Text to speech.
