How to connect Xperia to Sony Shooting grip and Bluetooth remote commander

    Connecting your Xperia® device to the Sony Shooting Grip (GP-VPT3) or Bluetooth Remote Commander (RMT-VP2) enhances your photography and videography experience by providing convenient remote control functionality. This article outlines the steps to pair your Xperia device with these accessories, ensuring seamless operation. Before proceeding, confirm that your Xperia model is compatible with the GP-VPT3 or RMT-VP2 and ensure your device's software is up to date.
    Compatible Xperia models include:

    • Xperia PRO-I
    • Xperia 1 VII
    • Xperia 1 VI
    • Xperia 1 V
    • Xperia 1 IV
    • Xperia 1 III(Need to upgrade to Android 12)
    • Xperia 5 V
    • Xperia 5 IV
    • Xperia 5 III(Need to upgrade to Android 12)

    Connect an Xperia that has a Camera app

    For instructions on how to connect an Xperia with Photography Pro/Videography Pro app installed, go to Settings in Photography Pro/Videography Pro app.

    1. On your Xperia device, launch Camera app.
    2. On your Xperia device,select Photo mode at the bottom and tap Gear icon → tap Menu.
    3. On your Xperia device, tap Bluetooth remote control, and then tap the switch to enable the function.

    1. On your Xperia device, tap PAIR NEW CONTROLLER.

               

                

    1. On the Bluetooth® remote commander, perform pairing.
      • GP-VPT3 / RMT-VP2: With the ZOOM/FOCUS/LOCK switch set to any position other than LOCK, press and hold the MOVIE button and C1 button at the same time for at least 7 seconds.

       

          

    1. On your Xperia device, follow the on-screen instructions.
      • Select PAIR & CONNECT and PAIR on the notifications and dialogs that appear multiple times when your Xperia device detects the Bluetooth remote commander. The name of the Bluetooth remote commander may be displayed as a Bluetooth address (numerals and letters).

                 

                 


    Notes:

    • AF-ON button is not supported.
    • When you perform a factory data reset, pairing information is also erased. To use the Bluetooth remote commander, perform pairing again.
    • If the Bluetooth connection is unstable, remove any obstacles such as people or metal objects from between your Xperia device and the paired Bluetooth remote commander.
    • If the function does not work properly, check the following notes and then try pairing again.
      • Confirm that the Bluetooth remote commander is not connected with other devices.
      • Confirm that you are not operating your Xperia device using other Bluetooth remote commander.
      • Check if the Airplane mode of your Xperia device is set to off.
      • Check if the Bluetooth function of your Xperia device is set to on.
      • Unpair the Bluetooth remote commander.

    Tips:

    • Once you pair with the Bluetooth remote commander, you can operate it with Camera, Photo Pro or Video Pro app, depending on the model.
    • Turn the Bluetooth remote control function on or off individually for Camera, Photo Pro and Video Pro app, depending on the model.
    • To change the name of the paired Bluetooth remote commander, find and tap SettingsDevice connection, tap (Gear icon) beside the name of the paired Bluetooth remote commander, and then tap (Edit icon).
