Good TV but not that smart
164 cm (65") 23 March 2022 by Jerryh65 (United Kingdom)
TV has good sound and picture, was easy to set-up but the smart features are not as good as expected. For example can’t access ITV Hub or More 4, which seems like basic TV Apps that would be available on Google TV.

I bought this TV brand new January of 23, it was a 22 model, disappointed with the lifespan of this tv, shadows , dark spots in the middle of the screen, started showing up in April of 26th, I've had Sony's in my house for over 40 years, I think I'll skip Sony on my next purchase in a couple months

Had this TV for 5 years, never damaged it, did one software update and it turned off and never came back on again. No power, nothing. Tested everything. Absolutely NEVER purchasing another Sony again as customer service simply said "outside of warranty and this happens often with our TVs" even though we did nothing wrong with the TV. I get warranties, but I have an 11 year old LG TV that has been through it all and still works. TRUST ME, DON'T BUY FROM SONY.

50" class (49.5" diag) 24 January 2026 by Chach1 (USA)
I purchased this TV in June of 2021. It has given me great service to date, but I will be looking to upgrade soon. I have this TV paired with a Sony HT-A5000 sound bar. This sound is great; however, I would like to have the ability to use Acoustic Center Sync and this TV lacks that feature. Also, this sound bar has the ability to decode DTS X, but once again, this TV doesn't support it. When I purchased this TV back in June of 2021, I remember paying about $1200.00 for it. At that time, I think this was the best 50" you could get. If I upgraded to a 55", I could have all of these features today, but I feel like a 55 is too large for my viewing distance. For about 4 days, I owned the flagship A95L in the 55" variety, but believe it or not, I felt this Bravia beast did not have the same picture quality as the X90J. Sometimes bigger is not always better. Also, right out of the box, the X90J picture settings were perfect for me. I hate tinkering with TV settings and also did not want to mess with the "CALAMN for Bravia" app. I have never once adjusted any picture settings on the X90J. I recently reached out to Sony and recommended that they make a high end 50" with at least the features of the Bravia 7 but would love a Bravia 9. Lastly, if Sony does venture into the high end 50" world, I would like for it to me a Mini LED version.

Real-World Review: Sony Bravia XR X90J
164 cm (65") 03 June 2025 by Destroyer_Rick (USA) Verified Purchaser Verified
Real-World Review: Sony Bravia XR X90J + PlayStation 5 By Rick Contreras | Gamer Dad | Musician | Long-Term User When I bought the Sony Bravia X90J and paired it with my PlayStation 5, I didn’t just want a good picture—I wanted a true next-gen experience. I wanted something that felt like the future. At first, it wasn’t quite that. It was solid, sure—but not game-changing. Over the last couple of years though, with updates and firmware rollouts, the experience has matured into something seriously impressive. ⸻ The Sony Bravia X90J – Starts Good, Grows Great Out of the box, the X90J gave me what I expected from a Sony mid-tier flagship: a clean, sharp 4K picture, solid HDR, and that rich Sony color palette. The blacks weren’t OLED-level, but with full-array local dimming, the contrast still popped, especially in dark game scenes or cinematic sequences. Where it really started to shine was after a few software updates. Sony added better motion handling, improved the VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) support, and tightened the latency. Suddenly, this wasn’t just a “good” TV—it became a legit gaming display. For PS5 titles like Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, or Horizon Forbidden West, the visuals feel immersive, fluid, and deep. The Google TV interface has gotten more stable too. It was a little clunky at launch, but now it’s fast, intuitive, and packed with content. You can tell Sony put effort into long-term support. Standouts: • Excellent 4K HDR with Dolby Vision • HDMI 2.1 with 4K 120Hz, VRR, ALLM • Smart features that actually feel useful • Color accuracy and contrast above average for the price • Built for PS5 (it even auto-calibrates settings) Minor Downsides: • Limited viewing angles (this is a VA panel) • Only two HDMI 2.1 ports • Internal speakers are serviceable but lack real punch—definitely add a soundbar ⸻ The PlayStation 5 – Finally Growing Into Itself When I got the PS5, it was fast, quiet, and futuristic—but a little light on content. Now, a few years in, it’s grown into its power. With massive titles and updated system software, it feels like a full platform. Games load lightning fast thanks to the SSD, and the DualSense controller is still one of the most immersive features ever added to a console. The adaptive triggers and haptic feedback turn average games into visceral experiences. And when paired with the Bravia X90J? It’s like they’re speaking the same language. The “Perfect for PS5” branding isn’t just marketing—there are real perks, like automatic tone mapping and low-latency modes that kick in when the PS5 detects the Bravia. What Works: • Instant load times and buttery performance • Graphical fidelity that really shows off in 4K HDR • DualSense controller is next-level • Game library is finally stacked: exclusives like Demon’s Souls, Returnal, Final Fantasy XVI, and more • Constant system improvements and new features like Discord integration and VRR support What Could Be Better: • Storage fills fast, especially with 100GB+ games • Some AAA titles still locked at 30fps without VRR support • The UI, while sleek, still needs small quality-of-life tweaks ⸻ The Combo Verdict: Worth It If you’re looking for a full entertainment setup that handles both cinematic content and high-performance gaming, the Sony Bravia X90J and PS5 are a killer combo. They weren’t perfect at launch, but Sony has been doing the long game right. Between system updates, firmware improvements, and expanded game libraries, the setup has only gotten better with time. Together, they feel cohesive—like two pieces of a larger vision. Final Rating: 9/10 The Verdict: Futureproof, immersive, and finally delivering on the promise of next-gen. If you already have both, you’re in the sweet spot. If you’re thinking of buying in, you won’t regret it.

I bought this excellent HD smart TV about 3 years ago & have never had a single problem with it. Excellent colors, clarity, features & built in sound system. System setup & settings are easy to understand & adjust. Wall Mounted it & enjoy it from the living room & when cooking in the kitchen. It’s has an easy to use SW interface for internet & works well when using with my HP laptop or my Apple iPhone. I have only had SONY HD TVs for the last 30 years & will continue that loyalty. Leaving this about 2 years later, for the RRP, it was not a purchase that worthed the price. It was acceptable at the beginning, but it is very slow and sluggish now. A Fire TV stick from the same period is faster than this is now. It developed an issue with the Sattelite Tuner.

Future proofed would choose this over OLED
164 cm (65") 11 April 2024 by Raxlrig2 (United Kingdom)
Bought this 2 years ago. Full Google Home integration is great, excellent with sony devices, now with VRR update to allow for 120hz refresh rate PS5 gameplay. Hta-9 sound system uses a built in integrated menu from this TV, making it a greatly unified hub for Sony products and Google assistant products. Full Array LED is better in the long run vs OLED tv, as you don't have to worry about picture burn in problems or lack of brightness issues that a lot of OLED tvs face. This TV will last longer than those. For the price you cannot beat this.

Great...At First
164 cm (65") 19 February 2024 by Bob1969 (United Kingdom)
I was really please with this tv when I first purchased it, picture and sound great but with in 2 years it developed the dreaded (DSE) dirty screen effect, I reported it to Sony who contacted a repair centre near my town, unfortunately DSE cannot be fixed and they arranged for a replacement tv to be delivered, I think the tv was a refurbished one but couldn't say for sure, also the repair company made a complete hash of removing my old tv, they said the power cord was attached internally to the tv which it wasn't and they cut the lead, they also damaged my tv wall bracket, the repair company did cover the cost of the lead when I complained, they didn't cover the cost of the bracket and basically Sony didn't want to know and offered me nothing, so shame on Sony, see how this set goes might look at Samsung in the future.

I was looking for a TV that would tick all the boxes for what I wanted ( decent picture, sound and 120hz for gaming) Even though it's not OLED, I'm very impressed with the picture quality and colour. I'm glad I didn't pay the extra for OLED as this TV isn't much different ( in my eyes).

Poor quality, Twice the price, No customer support
50" class (49.5" diag) 03 January 2024 by Diappointed by Sony (USA) Verified Purchaser Verified
I replaced an 18 year old Panasonic plasma (that still worked perfectly) in December 2021 with a Barvia XR-X90J. This product was about twice the price as the competitive set, but I was looking for a premium product. Now, after just 2 years (25 months), horizontal lines have developed in the screen and Sony customer care's response is "go find a servicer to fix it". I expected so much more from both the product and their customer care.

It replaced my previous 65” Sony that lasted for 5 years. I’ve had it for a couple of years now and it satisfies my tv needs. Steady Wi-Fi connection, great voice to text feature. One feature it is lacking is streaming from the phone. I had to use third party app to do it.
