IMPORTANT: This article applies only to specific products and/or operating systems. Check the Applicable Products and Categories section of this article before starting these steps.
Follow this procedure if the TV speakers don't produce sound or have low volume. Check the TV speakers after each step.
- Increase the volume of the TV.
- If the TV is connected to a set-top box with a volume control, increase the volume of the set-top box.
- If the set-top box is connected using an Audio/Video (A/V) connection, make sure the A/V cables are securely connected to the appropriate video input on the TV.
- Make sure the MUTE option of the TV isn't enabled.
- Make sure no headphones are connected to the TV.
- If analog broadcasts are used, perform analog broadcast tuning.
- If audio is heard from the analog broadcasts, the TV speakers are working. Check the other input sources or playback content for sound issues.
- If no audio can be heard, proceed to the next step.
- Verify that the MTS settings of the TV are set to MAIN or STEREO.
- If the source device doesn't transmit a stereo signal, sound may only come out of one speaker on the TV, and the volume will sound low. In this case, adjust or replace the source device.
- If the TV has a Simulated effect in the Audio or Sound menu, turn it OFF.
- If the TV has a Volume Offset setting in the menu, increase it to the maximum value.
- Check that the TV speakers aren't set as the Center speaker.
- Some TVs allow the TV speakers to act as the center channel speaker when using a multi-channel receiver.
- Verify the speakers are set to ON in the TV menu.
- If the TV has audio output jacks connected to a stereo system, then the speakers on the TV may be turned off. Some TVs require the internal speakers or the center speaker setting to be off before audio can be sent out to a stereo receiver via the audio out jacks.
- If the TV has Headphone/Audio Out settings in the Audio or Sound menu, set it to Audio Out.
- Make sure all A/V cable connections are properly connected to the TV.
- Test the TV using another source like a VCR, DVD player, or Blu-ray Disc™ player.
- Check the software version of the TV.
Note: This may only be applicable to TVs with upgradable software/firmware. If the TV software version is up to date, proceed with the troubleshooting, otherwise perform software update first. Manuals are posted on your model support page.
- Perform a power reset on the TV. If your remote control doesn't have a RESET button, follow the power reset procedure.
- For Android TV™ models, follow these steps to perform a power reset.
- If the TV is connected to a set-top box, try resetting it. Refer to the manual for model-specific information.
- If the issue isn't resolved after performing a power reset, reset the TV to the original factory settings.
- For Android TVs, follow these steps on how to reset the TV to the original factory settings.
The troubleshooting steps listed above should resolve the issue. If you have completed all of the steps and the issue still occurs, repair may be required.
