Civic and Community Outreach

Healthy, robust communities create opportunities that allow their residents to live deeper, richer lives. We support a variety of programs that enhance the quality of life in communities and help aid disadvantaged residents and victims of tragedy.

Sony Corporation of America provides support to a number of civic-oriented organizations including Teach for America, a national corps of college graduates who commit two years to teach in urban and rural public schools; Phoenix House, the nation's largest non-profit organization devoted to the treatment and prevention of substance abuse; and Literacy Partners, the New York-based adult and family literacy organization serving students on both the local and national levels.

Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc. sponsors the Annual Sony Pictures Screenland Classic, a two-day soccer tournament in Culver City held in conjunction with the American Youth Soccer Organization Region 19. The event hosts more than 80 teams and 1,200 players. In 1993, Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc. established the Sony Pictures Urban Green Fund with TreePeople, a Los Angeles-based non-profit organization that encourages the planting and maintenance of trees in Southern California. Since 1993, company employees have participated in more than 35 major tree plantings in the region. Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc. provides support to other civic and community organizations including LA Urban Funders, the Greater Los Angeles Zoo Association, Streetlights, the National Council of La Raza and St. Augustine's Volunteer Emergency Services.

Sony Electronics Inc.'s United Way campaign is an annual program in which employees donate to the charity of their choice online and the company matches all or a portion of the donation. It also allows for donations through payroll deductions. The company also has a program that matches the donation employees make to the non-profit organizations of their choice. Sony Electronics Inc. also facilitates a number of civic-oriented initiatives including its clothing drives for Dress for Success, its Back to School drives every summer to help provide school supplies to disadvantaged students in New Jersey and Miami, its bi-annual food drives, and its toy drives at its facilities in Park Ridge, New Jersey; Westmoreland, Pennsylvania; and San Diego, California.

Other civic and community-oriented organizations supported by Sony include Boys & Girls Clubs of America, the UJA Federation, the Rainforest Foundation, the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, the National Urban League Annual Convention and the United Negro College Fund.
