My OLED TV screen suddenly gets brighter or darker

IMPORTANT: This article applies only to specific products and/or operating systems. Check Applicable Products and Categories for details.

If your TV screen brightness suddenly changes, check the following:

    • Check the Light and Color sensor or Light sensor settings. If the sensor setting is on, the brightness of the TV screen changes to match the ambient lighting.

Follow these steps if you wish to turn off this feature:

      1. On the supplied remote, press the HOME button.
      2. Select the Settings gear icon.
      3. This step will depend on your TV menu options:
        • Select Display & SoundPictureLight sensor
        • or select DisplayPictureLight sensor.

Note: The light sensor itself is located in the center of the bottom part of the screen.

    • Change the channel or the input source to see if the brightness returns to normal. When an image is displayed on the screen that may easily cause image retention, the screen brightness gradually reduces in order to protect the TV from image retention. The brightness returns to normal if you change the screen or perform another action that eliminates the risks of image retention.

Note: This function activates frequently because the HOME screen and the top screen apps contain bright still images.

If the brightness change is inconvenient, follow these steps to lower the Peak Luminance setting and reduce the brightness change:

      1. Press the HOME button.
      2. Select the Settings gear icon.
      3. Select Display & SoundPictureAdvanced settingsBrightnessPeak LuminanceMedium or Low.

Note: If Advanced settings is not shown, select BrightnessPeak Luminance, then set to Medium or Low.

      4. Select DisplayPictureAdvanced settingsBrightnessPeak LuminanceMedium or Low.
