The 9th Sony Creative Science Award in Taiwan

Sony Creative Science Award (SCSA) celebrated its 9th year in Taiwan in 2021. Although the workshops and competition were shifted online due to the covid-19 situation, the innovative spirit of the young creators aged between 9 to 12 years old was very much alive and reflected in their enthusiastic participation and outstanding toys creations.

Students prepared video presentations of their toy creations for the judging

A total of 540 children from all over Taiwan teamed up to create toys based on the 9th SCSA theme - A toy made for multiple players. They transformed their imagination into various types of games which wowed the judging panel. Over 85% of the shortlisted teams successfully completed and submitted their creative toys together with a self-made video presentation.

In addition to the competition, Sony was invited once again to exhibit selected SCSA winning toys at the annual ‘National Science Fair’, jointly organized by the five major museums in Taiwan, with the aim to interact with the general public and spark more children’s interests in science learning.

The National Science Fair provided many hands-on activities for the students

With the increasing trend towards remote learning, Sony also joined the digital edition of the ‘2021 Science Train’. This year, the event brought the physical on-train scientific activities into a virtual journey, providing free access to interactive and interesting science experiments for all elementary school students. A science experiment video conducted by a Sony Taiwan engineer was featured in this project, introducing basic principles of sound and the concept of how noise-cancelling headphones work. The engaging and easy-to-replicate experiment uses common household items that children can easily find and enjoy the science learning at home.
