This initiative by a researcher at Sony Computer Science Laboratories aims to support musicians to acquire skills of how to embody music creativity in performance and to prevent overuse injuries through scientific research and technological development. The Music Excellence Academy, which combines physical and arts education for teenage pianists, leverages the outcomes of the research and development, such as the states-of-the-art, high-precision sensing technologies to support the mastery of skills and improve the quality of practice. Such a holistic music education guides students to optimize the way they use their body and to improve practice methods efficiently and effectively, which also helps prevent injuries through extensive musical training.
The designers led designing the interface of the educational system used by the Academy's students based on the unique perspective of experienced musicians by themselves, allowing for identifying key issues and implementing UI/UX solutions to resolve the issues. This eventually contributed to enhancing the overall quality of the education in the Academy.
