Larry Gritz developed computer graphics technology for animation and visual effects for film production at Sony Pictures Imageworks. His work has included realistic 3D rendering, simulation of lights and materials, and image processing. He is the designer of Open Shading Language, a programming language widely used in high-end computer graphics for film, and founder of the OpenImageIO project.
Leading the Open-source software development at Sony Pictures Imageworks, developing computer graphics technology for use in film production, and exploring how machine learning should be used for visual effects and animation.
Holds
Ph.D. in computer science. Member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Received Academy Scientific and Technical Award for Open Shading Language. ASWF technical advisory council.
