“I started watching anime when I was five years old, and my favorite anime of all time is ‘Sailor Moon.’ It’s like really what helped me become like the super woman that I am today.”

Lyu
“Because she is a super woman as well.”

Varnado
“She is.”

Lyu
“Yeah. Okay, so another quick, fun question. If you could have anybody in your wrestling tag team, any anime character, who would it be?”

Varnado
“I think I might either have to have L from ‘DEATH NOTE’ or Near from ‘DEATH NOTE.’”

Lyu
“I don't think L gets out of his chair though. Do you think...”

Varnado
“That's why I said Near. I’ll take Near!”

Lyu
“You are right. Smart, smart, smart. Thank you so much for coming. And please enjoy the rest of the night.”

Varnado
“Thank you. I can’t wait!”

The scene switches to Lemon and Moore at the venue.

Lemon
“I just can't believe we live in a time where we are celebrating anime to this level. Like look at. You guys are probably seeing everyone just walk behind us. All the huge guests.”

Moore
“I know.”

Lemon
“The camera is like, it is just insane. It is incredible.”

Moore
“It's a lot. Did you have any idea that the show would be this big?”

Lemon
“Honestly, I did not think it would be like to this scale, and it is so cool.”

Moore
“I mean, I feel like it's just really cool to see how far not only the Anime Awards has come, but also just anime in general. In fact, that we get to be here in Tokyo, like celebrating our nominees. It's so cool.

So we've just revealed a few different categories, like Best Drama. We heard from hip-hop legend, Shing02. If you're just joining us, it's been a great show so far. We even showed a little behind the scenes.”

Lemon
“That seemed really fun.”

Moore
“To see some of the stuff that we're doing. So this carpet has been very busy. There's a ton of press behind us, there is flashbulbs going off. We're going to see even more nominees, celebs and so much more.

And speaking of amazing guests, I actually got to catch up with the NFL's DeMarcus Lawrence yesterday during rehearsals.”

Lemon
“Wow.”

After an orange transition, DeMarcus Lawrence, wearing a black hoodie on the left side of the screen and Moore on the right, interviewing him.

Moore
“All right. We are here at rehearsal day with NFL sensation DeMarcus Lawrence. Thank you so much for being here.”

DeMarcus Lawrence
“Thank you also for having me.”

Moore
“We're so happy that you are here. So, we know that you are a huge anime fan. We've seen your fandom on the field. Can you tell us a little bit about it?”

Lawrence
“Yes. Like you said, huge anime fan grew up watching it. Actually, gravitated back to it when I got into the NFL and yeah, man, you know, it's just inspiring to me and definitely enjoy it with my kids.”

Moore
“I love it. I love hearing that. All right, so I have to ask really quickly if you could pick one anime character and recruit them for your team, who would it be? Who's your go-to?”

Lawrence
“My go-to is Vegeta.”

Moore
“Vegeta! Okay, that's a pretty strong choice. That's a really strong choice. I know all the DBZ fans are definitely losing it in the chat right now. Thank you so much for being here. Have a wonderful time.”

Lawrence
“Thank you, ma'am.”

The scene goes back to the blue studio with an orange transition. Aquaria, with emerald green hair color and wearing a black dress and if velvet fabric, is standing next to Lyu, who is standing on the right side of the screen.

Lyu
“We're back here on the Orange Carpet and I've got another guest to help me announce some more special category winners. Give it up for a fashion model, drag entertainer, DJ, winner of RuPaul's Drag Race Season 10, music video star, overall icon and of course, an anime fan.
Give it up for Aquaria.”

Aquaria
“Hello, Tim!”

Lyu
“Hello, a pleasure. First of all, we know you created some top-tier anime looks. Tell us about your look tonight.”

Lyu
“That hair color, perfect. All right, Aquaria. You're a big anime fan, actually. So could you share some of your faves and what do you love about them?”

Aquaria
“Oh my goodness, I love ‘Cowboy Bebop.’ I love ‘EVANGELION.’ And I love them because they just transport me to a whole another world. And sometimes this world is feeling so cruddy that you got to get somewhere else.”

Lyu
“You got to go somewhere else. So, Aquaria. Are you ready to announce the next category and winner?”

Aquaria
“Duh!!”

Lyu

Lemon
“No, no, no.”

Vellani
“I'm honestly here to learn. I am a new anime fan, but I'm super obsessed now. Like, people are recommending me stuff. I'm watching it, I'm invested.”

Lemon
“The world is your oyster right now.”

Vellani
“Totally!”

Lemon
“You are new anime fan, right?”

Vellani
“Yeah.”

Lemon
“So much out there.”

Vellani
“The world is.”

Vellani shows the shell-shaped party bag to Lemon and Lyu. They laugh about that.

Lyu
“Oh, I just love it. Just love it.”

Lemon
“That was not intentional. Oh, my God.”

Vellani
“You Guys.”

Lemon
“All right.”

Lemon
“Iman, how would you describe your relationship with anime?”

Vellani
“Umm, she's really green right now, but I think there's potential there.”

Lemon
“Yeah.”

Vellani
“I think we get along very well.”

Lyu
“You see marriage potentials, even?”

Vellanij
“Totally! I think this is a long-term relationship.”

Lemon
“It's not a fling?”

Vellani
“No, no! I am not dropping after this. It's not a facade.”

Lyu
“So, I have to ask this very hard question. It's going to be a hard-hitting question. What is the one anime everyone should go watch if they haven't seen it yet?”

Vellani
“I mean, my first anime was ‘Attack on Titan.’ So, if you haven't seen that, what are you doing?
Because even I've seen it. Yeah.”

Lyu
“So, some of you watching at home also sent questions for Iman through the Anime Awards hashtag and we've got these questions right here. You want to go first, Lena?”

Lemon
“All right. What anime character do you relate to the most?”

Vellani
“Luffy or Right now, I just started ‘BOCCHI THE ROCK!’”

Lemon
“Do you relate to Bocchi?”

Vellani
“You know what? In small ways, yeah. I feel like, after my last few years in this business has been so insanely crazy, and I always thought I was like an extrovert. And then being so exposed in the media, and having cameras everywhere and you're like, perceived in general, I'm like, ‘That is me. I am she.’ We are the same.”

Lyu
“So, if you were to have a chance to enter any anime universe, which universe would you choose?”

Vellani
“Oh, not ‘Attack on Titan.’”

Lemon
“Because you want to live.”

Lyu
“Smart.”

Vellani
“Oh God. I mean, I want to say a Ghibli universe.”

Lyu
“They are so pretty.”

Vellani
“but that's. Yeah.”

Lyu
“Which movie? Which movie, real quick.”

Vellani
“Okay, okay. ‘Howl’s Moving Castle.’”

Lyu
“Oh!”

Vellani
“Gorgeous ‘Castle in the Sky.’”

Lyu
“I would choose ‘Howl's Moving Castle,’ right at the ending when it's all peace and love at the end.”

Vellani
“Yeah, yeah, yeah. Peace and love.”

Lemon
“You got to through that to deserve, Howl.”

Lyu
“Just straight peace and love.”

Vellani
“Or if there was a giant Totoro in my backyard, I would not be mad about that.”

Lemon
“That’s very true.”

Lyu
“And I want to ask, what is the, oh we already know this answer to this one. What's the first anime you watched? ‘Attack on Titan.’”

Vellani
“Yes, actually ‘Demon Slayer,’ but didn’t get into it. Then ‘Attack on Titan.’ That was the first one I finally finished.”

Lyu
“Okay, okay. Thank you so much. Have fun tonight, Iman. And thank you for taking the time to talk with us.”

Vellani
“Thank you so much.”

Lyu
“So thanks so much, Iman. And we want to talk, we're going to talk a little bit about I want to let you guys know about the theme song actually for the Crunchyroll Anime Awards. So it's something that we haven't touched on yet. So this theme song for the Anime Awards was created by none other than the legendary Hiroyuki Sawano and KOHTA YAMAMOTO. And they'll be performing the new theme song live in the show opening, the main show opening. So fans will be able to stream the new opening of Crunchyroll after the show. Of course, you know. You’ll have to watch the show and then check it out, you know. So it's a crazy honor to have these two craft our theme song and performance for everybody live.”

Lemon
“It is going to be so cool. That’s all coming up in the main show, but right now, let's check back in with Lauren.”

“Good evening, everyone. I'm Yoshida. Thank you for joining the 2024 Crunchyroll Anime Awards. Also, I'd like to extend a warm welcome to all the anime fans around the world watching the livestream.

This year marks the eighth year of the celebration of the great achievements of anime fans and creators. Just over this past year, many titles were given life by passionate anime creators. Anime continues to grow into people's entertainment of choice. None of this would be possible without the individuals who breathe life into the fantastical world of anime.

Tonight's honors celebrate over 50 television and theatrical anime titles in our industry and more than 50 voice actors and music artists. My respect goes out to the creative communities whose visionary work takes us on journeys that surpass our imagination.

This year, there were over 34 million votes from about 200 countries and regions, which is almost double of the total number of votes from last year. I'd also like to thank every anime fan around the world who cast their vote to have their diverse voices heard.

We believe that entertainment including anime has the power to connect people. Crunchyroll is dedicated to delivering anime that inspire people to every corner of the world. I hope to continue to be a part of this award ceremony to bring together anime fans and creators. In honor of this, the theme for this year's ceremony is ‘Fusing Worlds,’ or bringing worlds together.

I'm very happy and honored that I can share the magic of anime with everyone at such a special venue tonight. Please enjoy tonight's ceremony till the very end. Thank you very much.”

Asai begins his speech.

Asai
“I can't thank you enough for choosing ‘Buddy Daddies’ for such a distinguished awards category, Best Original Anime. ‘Buddy Daddies’ is about two single men who have never raised children before. Through an unexpected twist of fate, they end up adopting and raising a little girl. This comedy anime also highlights the small, precious moments of child-rearing. Though I produced this anime, I've never raised a child myself.

As I worked on this title, I felt that I was alongside the characters as they faced challenges in child-rearing. I hope the audience was able to see how much we poured into every character, and how wonderful they are. Thank you very much.”

Asai takes a bow after he finished the speech. The awards theme song plays and he leaves the stage with LiSA. Kabira appears from the left side of the screen and introduces the next category of award and presenter.

Actually, that brings me to one of the things that this category celebrates the unique style given to a character that makes them instantly recognizable. Tonight's nominees have brought the essence of the characters to life in a way that is nothing short of extraordinary. For season 2, I mostly designed the main characters, then delegated the other characters to the younger staff. So this nomination is for their achievements, not mine. But it's thanks to their hard work that I'm standing on this stage accepting this award tonight. I'd like to thank all the staff involved in the show. Thank you again”

Everyone here in this room has a deep understanding of the hard work that goes into what we see on screen. It takes the perfect combination of visually stunning style, a compelling narrative, and a world that totally immerses the fans. After I watch one of my favorite anime, I look at all the names in the credits and think about how each person worked hours on their contribution to the whole. No matter how big or how small it takes that kind of dedication. The right visionaries, amazing animators, great writing and just a bit of magic from every person involved to bring it all to life. Ever since I was a child, I grew up watching anime made by people here. I've just always loved to watch anime and really I'm just someone who has been taken under real masters' wings and allowed to participate in creating images. I'm very honored to be receiving it, but it would be crazy of me to boast about it. I hope I can continue to work hard and contribute to the animation industry. I'll continue to do my best. Thank you.”
