Business and Disability Forum -ESG Investment and The Value of Disability Inclusive Company-

Kazuo Hirai, Senior Advisor to the Sony Group, speaks at a forum on "Business and Disability Forum -ESG Investment and The Value of Disability Inclusive Company-" in Japan Jointly Sponsored by The Nippon Foundation's and The Valuable 500

As part of efforts to promote inclusion for people with disabilities, The Nippon Foundation jointly sponsored a forum on "Business and Disability Forum -ESG Investment and The Value of Disability Inclusive Company-" on August 20, 2021 in Japan. Kazuo Hirai, Senior Advisor of Sony Group Corporation and Kenichi Mochizuki, Representative Director, Sony People Solutions Inc. spoke at the forum.

The Forum was co-sponsored by "The Valuable 500" (V500), a global networking organization committed to the inclusion of people with disabilities, launched at Davos 2019.

Five hundred global companies have signed up for the V500 initiative. The Sony Group signatories are Sony Group Corporation, Sony Life Insurance Co., Ltd., and Sony Music Entertainment UK Ltd. Sony Group Corporation was selected from among the 500 signatories as one of thirteen Iconic Leaders to play a leading role in the next phase of the initiative.

Today, ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) and SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) are vital components of corporate social responsibility, while respect for human rights and the promotion of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DE&I) are seen as essential for sustainable corporate growth. The forum targeted private corporate management, focusing on how incorporating a disability perspective into business in such areas as hiring people with disabilities and expanding markets for customers with disabilities can help enhance corporate value.

Senior Advisor Hirai spoke about the importance of inclusion in business from a management perspective based on his experience at Sony. Kenichi Mochizuki, then discussed Sony's overall stance towards employing people with disabilities, using examples from Sony/Taiyo Corporation and Sony Kibou/Hikari Corporation in Japan to illustrate the concept and approach to inclusion of people with disabilities in business.
