The Sony Group operates globally, guided by its Purpose, “to fill the world with emotion, through the power of creativity and technology,” and its corporate direction of “getting closer to people.” Our operations are sustained by the diversity reflected in our technology and employees.

According to Sony’s founding prospectus written by Masaru Ibuka, one of Sony’s founders, Tokyo Tsushin Kogyo’s (Tokyo Telecommunications Engineering Corporation) social mission was to contribute to reconstruct Japan and to elevate the nation's culture through dynamic technological activities. The same spirit has been shared by Sony and technology ranks alongside creativity and diversity as one of the most important drivers of value creation for the Sony Group.

The Sony Group was thus founded on people and technology, which is further illustrated by our tradition of holding the Sony Technology Exchange Fair, or “STEF,” which involves employees from the entire Group and has fueled advancement in our technological capabilities and innovation through the interaction of people and technologies.

STEF began in 1973 and has been held every year since, making this year its 50th anniversary.

To mark this major half-century milestone, we are for the first time opening up portions of the STEF even to those outside of the Sony Group.

In addition to showcasing Sony’s cutting-edge technology, we will also be hosting the Conference, which will feature discussions between Sony’s top engineers and external experts. We will provide opportunities for next generation talent (such as high school students, university and graduate school students, and post-doc researchers) to interact with our engineers and tour the technology exhibits. We hope this interaction will support them in shaping their career vision. We will also host the R&D Strategy Briefing, where we will share the future direction of the Sony Group’s technology with a wide range of stakeholders, including journalists and investors.
