Sony - FUTURE PROOF : Inside the Sound

A sound engineer sits at a digital mixer at the back of a large dark music venue with blue lighting. At the front of the space, Murray Hidary sits at a piano on a spot-lit stage. He has a beard and is wearing a black suit. The piano is decorated with moss and a tree bends over it with drooping, pink-covered branches. Then Murray appears in an interview. A green banner pops up with white text in the bottom corner.

MURRAY
“One of the things that was really compelling to me was to create an audio soundscape in three dimensions, which was going to take people deeper.”

Murray plays the moss-covered piano on the blue-lit stage. An audience sits in chairs and on floor mats of green turf. Text appears on a green and blue background.

JORDY
“With 360 Reality Audio, creators have a sphere with a hundred plus locations to place different sounds.”

The scene changes to footage of a band of six musicians on a black stage. Their images become glowing cirlces that show how 360 Reality Audio distributes sound. The circles join other circles in a spherical grid and move as their music would on a 360 Reality Audio track.

JORDY
“You’re actually going to hear individual sounds in different locations of that sphere and you’re gonna be surrounded by the music.”

Now a bust floats in the center of a sphere made from triangles, and colorful pulsating spheres dot the triangle sphere. The bust appears to wear headphones. A black circle in the top left corner contains a logo with two blue rings next to white text.

In the dark space, the sound engineer makes adjustments on the mixer of glowing buttons, knobs, and switches.

JORDY
“That will take you to the place that the creator wants to take you.”

A computer screen shows a digital image of a head in the middle of a spherical grid with colorful dots that represent where audio is placed inside that sphere. Onstage, Murray plays the piano. In Murray’s interview.

MURRAY
“I’m really trying to transport the audience to the world of imagination and possibility.”

The audience members sit under the blue lights attentively as Murray plays.

In a booth, Jordy sits with a mixer and three monitors. He checks out the speaker placements within Sony Hall on the monitors.

JORDY
“The beauty of 360 Reality Audio is really how it’s pushing music experience towards the future.”

Trusses hold speakers near the performance room’s decorated ceiling. Jordy stands in the center of the room with blue lights shining on him. On a green and blue background, two logos appear.
