About Green Management 2030

Sony has launched its long-term environmental plan, “Road to Zero,”
which aims to achieve a zero environmental footprint by 2050.
“Green Management” is Sony's medium-term environmental targets formulated by considering how much our environmental footprint should be reduced every five years, and backcasts from the Road to Zero plan of “achieving zero environmental footprint by 2050.”
Based on social trends and the progress of current medium-term environmental targets, we have set our “Green Management 2030”(GM2030), new medium-term environmental targets that will take effect from fiscal year (hereinafter “FY”) 2026 through 2030.

Road to Zero environmental plan overview. This represents a long-term initiative aimed at achieving zero environmental impact by 2050.

WHY WE DO THIS

The various products and services provided by Sony as part of its business portfolio, including Game & Network Services, Music, Pictures,Entertainment, Technology & Services and Imaging & Sensing Solutions, are only possible as a result of our healthy global environment.
We believe that we must take medium- to long-term action that will protect global environment in order to inspire a world filled with emotion for this generation and beyond.

HOW WE DO THIS

Sony Group companies, each operating across a diverse range of businesses, shall work together towards the shared goals.
We believe this will serve as a powerful driver in achieving our Green Management 2030 targets.
That being said, Sony's environmental initiatives cannot be achieved by us alone. We seek opportunities to work with society at large, including our internal and external stakeholders, and promote efforts to protect the environment.

Focus Point 1

To reduce our greenhouse gas emissions, Sony will use 100% renewable electricity in its own operations.
We will also encourage our main suppliers to take equivalent action.

  • 100%

Achieve 100% renewable electricity used in our own operations

  • -60%
    +
    Carbon removal

Reduce Sony Group-wide Scope 1 + Scope 2 emissions by 60% vs. FY2025 level. Remove carbon that is equivalent to the residual emissions

  • 100%

Encourage major raw materials and parts suppliers to achieve 100% renewable electricity used in the manufacturing of products for Sony Group

  • -25%

Reduce Sony Group-wide Scope 3 emissions by 25% vs. FY2025 level by continuing to make its products more energy efficient and factoring in the increased adoption of renewable electricity worldwide

  • Encourage raw materials and parts suppliers and contract manufacturers to monitor and reduce GHG emissions

Scope 1 and 2: Direct and indirect emissions in Sony's own operations / Scope 3: Other emissions resulting from the use of products, as well as supply chain and logistics activities, etc.

Focus Point 2

We promote the use of circular materials such as plastics, tin, and gold to reduce the use of new limited resources.
We also improve the recyclability of materials used in our products, to minimize the disposal of resources, and implement measures to extend the life of our products and reuse products and parts to use resources in an appropriate manner.

  • 100%

Use 100% recycled materials for tin in solder for mounting of major printed circuit boards in specific models

  • 100%

Use 100% recycled materials for gold in major printed circuit boards and other components in specific models

  • 30%

Achieve non-circular plastic use rate per product weight of 30% or less

  • Promote implementation of measures to ensure the appropriate use of resources, including enabling products to be used for a longer time and fostering reuse of products/components

  • Promote better recyclability in product development

Focus Point 3

We enhance our plastic packaging initiatives, such as eliminating all single-use plastics used for product packaging, as well as those of items provided to people in conference rooms or at in-company shops.

  • Eliminate

    • Plastic packaging for products weighing 5 kg or less
    • Plastic packaging used at Sony Group retail operations
    • Single-use plastics used in conference rooms
