Tokyo, Japan - Sony Corporation today announced the appointment of new members to its Board of Directors, following approval at the 83rd Ordinary General Meeting of Shareholders that took place today, along with the company's new Chairman of the Board, Representative Directors, Corporate Executive Officers and Corporate Research Fellows appointed at a Meeting of the Board of Directors held after the above mentioned General Meeting of Shareholders.

The new position of Corporate Research Fellow has been instituted to promote the research and development of the technology which will be at the core of the future Sony Group. The Board of Directors will select from engineers and researchers who are outstanding in their field, and from whom significant contributions can be expected. Only those individuals who are judged to have relevant technological expertise and abilities equivalent to Corporate Executive Officer level will be appointed. Corporate Research Fellows will be expected to promote strategic R&D in their areas of expertise and to train successors in key fields.
