September 30, 2002, Makuhari, Japan - Companies supporting Memory Stick will jointly exhibit products and prototypes at the "Memory Stick Pavilion" during CEATEC JAPAN 2002 from October 1st to the 5th, 2002 for 5 days at Chiba's Makuhari Messe. Following last year's World PC Expo 2001, at CEATEC JAPAN 2002 over 60 domestic and foreign companies supporting Memory Stick will join the pavilion.

Having evolved from a storage media for recording picture images and/or PC data to a networking media that can support network services such as Internet, telecommunication and multimedia KIOSK, Memory Stick has, as of the end of September 2002, reached approximately 28 million cumulative shipments worldwide since its market introduction in September 1998. Currently a total of over 340 companies have expressed support for Memory Stick, and Memory Stick compatible products and services are rapidly increasing. Furthermore, new categories such as cellular phones, and the unique miniature car audio player have joined the family of existing Memory Stick compatible product categories. As of the end of August 2002, Memory Stick compatible products have expanded into over 60 product categories and over 600 product models.

New Memory Stick compatible products and services of more than 60 domestic and foreign companies that support Memory Stick will be showcased and demonstrated at the pavilion in an environment that recreates scenes from daily life divided into three stages: "CAR," "HOME," and "OUTDOOR." Visitors can also play Memory Stick compatible products with a Memory Stick through a "Memory Stick exploring tour." During the tour they can truly experience for themselves user-friendly operation and exciting services realized by utilizing Memory Stick media and Memory Stick compatible products.
A "SOLUTION" corner offers companies interested in developing Memory Stick products information on technologies and devices necessary for development of the Memory Stick IC, the software and the connector.

As part of a unique approach toward the Memory Stick network, the following Memory Stick compatible products are also displayed at the pavilion: a miniature car audio player by TAKARA Co., Ltd., a KIOSK terminal that offers users secure music downloading, a laptop PC by Samsung Japan Corporation, and a HiFi audio system by Pioneer Corporation.

A new digital rights management (DRM) technology called "OpenMG for MS-KIOSK," which realizes services for securely downloading music content to MagicGate Memory Stick via a KIOSK terminal, was developed as an additional Memory Stick compliant technology. "OpenMG for MS-KIOSK" consistently supports content distribution through to a KIOSK terminal and flexibly accommodates content distribution mechanisms for various kinds of KIOSK terminals. With "OpenMG for MS-KIOSK," secure music download services utilizing MagicGate Memory Stick via KIOSK terminals can be implemented.
"OpenMG for MS-KIOSK" is planned for use with music download services through KIOSK terminals^*1 located at convenience stores and gas stations in Japan sequentially. Music content downloaded from KIOSK terminals utilizing the "OpenMG for MS-KIOSK" technology can be played back on Memory Stick compatible portable audio players, PDAs, and PCs.
