Announcement on Financial Business Approval for first financial holding company in Japan to cover life insurance, non-life insurance and banking activities

Approval was today granted by the Financial Services Agency to establish an interim financial holding company, Sony Financial Holdings Inc. Approval was granted under the Insurance Business Law for an insurance holding company and under the Bank Law for a bank holding company.

The new company is scheduled for establishment on April 1, 2004.
