Sony Korea held the 17th Sony Korea Eco Science School with its CSR partner, ChildFund Korea, inviting 32 children from the Gwanak Social Welfare Center to its office in Yeouido, Korea.
The 17th Sony Korea Eco Science School offered the children an opportunity not only to experience one of the latest IT technologies through MESH, a DIY kit for the Internet of Things, but also to help develop their creativity and thinking skills.
Especially, Sony Korea employees, who were participated as volunteers for this event, carried out the MESH workshop by themselves either as navigators or support staff. The children had a special time to make their own Internet of Thing device by connecting 4 types of MESH blocks with functions such as motion sensor, brightness sensor, LED and button to various objects like cups, dolls, boxes, glasses, and so on.
A student who participated in the event said, "I put a MESH block that detects movement onto a trash can, and it made the smartphone say, “Thank you” when putting a tissue in the trash can. It was a wonderful and amazing experience. I want to make more IoT devices with MESH blocks that can make people's everyday life more convenient and enjoyable. "
After the MESH workshop and lunch, they also had a great time watching the recently released Sony Pictures' movie, Peter Rabbit.
