OCELLUS
Camera Tracking System (2025)
OCELLUS is a camera tracking system that uses multiple sensors to deliver stable, marker-free tracking and streamline content creation for virtual production—including In-Camera VFX and augmented reality (AR). By eliminating the need to set up IR markers or stationary cameras, which conventional systems have required, the OCELLUS system enables quick configuration and dramatically lightens the workload of preparing for shoots. The sensor unit, meanwhile, recognizes feature points and uses Visual SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping) technology to capture location data, indoors or outdoors, to deliver flexibility for a diversity of shooting environments and staging needs.
Featuring a polyhedral design, the sensor unit efficiently situates sensors and IR LEDs on five faces. With every nonessential element stripped away, the design balances high functionality with a sense of formal elegance. The lens encoders and processing box also reflect real-world mounting needs on production cameras, giving Sony’s first camera tracking system a distinctive, emblematic presence.
