Introducing Engagement Platform: a technology platform to connect creators and fans

Across the entertainment landscape, Sony empowers creators with technology. This includes tools for every step of the creative process, from ideation to capturing to production to distribution. Once released into the world, entertainment IP can extend beyond its original form. The world of a game can expand into a film or TV series. A musician can bring a stadium tour to a streaming platform or adapt the concert for VR. As content becomes more interactive between virtual and physical worlds, creators need tools to engage with audiences everywhere. Deepening audience engagement is an important part of Sony’s Creative Entertainment Vision, a 10-year vision established in 2024 to help creators transcend boundaries with technology and bring new ideas to life in real time.
Whether content takes the form of a game, music, movie, TV series, or immersive experience, technology can help creators connect with fans and understand their audiences better. Fans, in turn, can use technology to find community and support content that inspires them. As fandoms expand over time, Sony technologists are constantly exploring ways to contribute to audience growth. In 2024, Sony announced a new initiative to enhance engagement with creators and customers: Engagement Platform.
Engagement Platform is a platform that leverages technology and solutions across Sony Group to more effectively and efficiently deepen and broaden engagement with customers and creators at various touchpoints. It will bring together proven fan engagement solutions from Sony, starting with technology from PlayStation Network. Engagement Platform will streamline the customer experience by extending core functions of the PlayStation Network infrastructure such as accounts, payments, data capabilities, and security.

Sony Engagement Platform Services LLC: a newly formed entity to unlock value for Engagement Platform
The development of the Engagement Platform will be led jointly by a newly formed entity called Sony Engagement Platform Services LLC (SEPS), headquartered in California, led by Paul J. Walsh, and Sony Group Corporation’s DX Division led by Seishi Hirao.
Under the leadership of SEPS LLC President and Sony Group Corporation Global IT Officer Paul J. Walsh, the objective of SEPS is to identify and accelerate the creation of platform services. In the immediate term, the company will focus on developing core services such as payments infrastructure, revenue recognition, and commerce solutions. The team will also support technology implementation across various businesses by leveraging PlayStation Network assets.
SEPS LLC is currently seeking ambitious engineers to join the team in California.

Partnering across Sony to innovate on the customer experience, beginning with PlayStation® and Crunchyroll®
Sony’s Engagement Platform leverages the core backend function of PlayStation Network, an online service from Sony Interactive Entertainment that connects gamers worldwide. PlayStation Network currently serves more than 124M monthly active users (As of March 31, 2025), acting as a gateway to the PlayStation Store and PlayStation Plus. As a robust network service, PlayStation Network auto-scales to nimbly accommodate global user traffic shifts, enabling it to realize both high-quality operations and cost optimization.
The Engagement Platform will bring together customer experience technologies from across Sony, starting with a collaboration between PlayStation Network and Crunchyroll. Earlier this year, Crunchyroll partnered with Sony Interactive Entertainment and Corporate DX Division to allow fans to link their PlayStation and Crunchyroll accounts. This collaboration focuses on enabling easier payments and more convenient access to favorite anime titles on both platforms. Crunchyroll offers the world’s largest dedicated anime library, providing many ways for fans to engage with beloved IP beyond streaming. For loyal PlayStation fans who are curious about exploring Crunchyroll’s vast library, the integration enables seamless immersion into the anime world. This experience gives the audience access to the “Mega Fan” tier, which unlocks ad-free viewing including simulcast episodes shortly after premiere in Japan, access to Crunchyroll Game Vault, a growing library of games, deals and special offers to the Crunchyroll Store, and more.

The aim of the Engagement Platform is to expand Sony's audience through content, experiences and engagement across all the Sony Operating Companies starting with PlayStation Network and Crunchyroll.
