C:We are working on research and development of machine learning technology to make real-world robots and virtual agents smarter. Specifically, we will apply machine learning technology to action planning, motion control, and environmental adaptation in dynamic and complex environments, and research on breakthrough technology for the practical application of robots that operate in open-ended environments. In places where social implementation is possible, such as aibo and AFEERA, we develop technology at the principle verification level into technology that works in the real world, contributing to each business. Furthermore, we are conducting research and business application development to learn appropriate behavior in the environment using the core technology of reinforcement learning. In addition, we conduct joint research with overseas research institutes and universities, have active exchanges with the world's top AI institutions, and actively participate in academic conferences such as ICRA, IROS, and CoRL to research and survey cutting-edge technlogies in this field.
D:Image recognition is the AI technology with the most advanced social implementation. Sony also uses image recognition in many products and services such as cameras, robots, TVs, and games. Our team has been researching and developing its core technology for more than 20 years. Specifically, we will develop basic algorithms for face recognition,human recognition, hand gesture recognition, and object recognition, and commercialize them in collaboration with business units. In the research phase, we will publish papers, and in the commercial phase, we will communicate closely with business units to bring them down to the product level. We are also researching new sensing areas such as the use of raw images as well as RGB sensors, the total optimization of ISPs and recognizers, and multimodal recognition technology using images, language, and sound. We are also conducting joint research with overseas research labs and universities such as Sony Research and the US, and we are actively interacting with top AI institutions around the world. One of the attractions of R & D is that it has many internal and external connections.

- 3D World Model Generation Technology
The use of 3D models in content creation, such as for anime and movies, is rapidly expanding. However, creating these models is a time-consuming and costly process, which limits the resources creators can dedicate to creative work like direction and camerawork. To address this, we aim to streamline production processes, including animation and pre-visualization, and maximize creators' creativity. This will be achieved by generating a 3D world model that integrates AI-based technology for converting images into 3D with a rule-based technology that builds 3D environments from scripts, setting information, and maps.
B:Digital Twin Learning
In the development of physical AI, such as AD/ADAS, major challenges include the significant time and cost required to collect data that covers diverse situations and to improve AI quality.
To address this, we generate data that is difficult to obtain in the real world using approaches based on world models. Furthermore, we aim to efficiently improve AI performance through large-scale training and AI quality analysis.
C:Security Technology

- IP Management and Utilization Blockchain
As a new IP management framework for the Web3 era, a blockchain infrastructure will be developed to protect creators ’ IP and distribute rewards quickly and fairly. By utilizing this blockchain infrastructure and licensing IP securely, revenues corresponding to the use of IP will be returned not only to creators but also to fans, thereby realizing a world in which IP is utilized to the maximum extent by the entire community. Part of this technology has been put into practical use in KENDRIX service of JASRAC, and we aim to expand this technology to various IP management fields in the future.

Sony's next generation products or services needs to be more ‘intelligent’.
To be more intelligent, such products or services would need devices to percept its surroundings using multiple image sensors and compute at edge devices or using cloud and execute feedbacks in realtime.
In cooperation with various algorithms, products, and service development teams within the Sony Group, we analyze the requirements of the entire system, and research and develop system software (from the MW layer to the OS layer) and software architectures that extend to edge devices and the cloud.
In addition to ROS2 core technology development for Robotics, which has been contributing to the Open Source Software(OSS) community, we are also taking on the challenge of achieving functions and quality that exceed customer expectations, including rapidly developing cloud-native technologies and Software Defined Viechle(SDV) which is expected in the automotive.

Our team has been developing advanced software development environments and technologies for Sony's various business units and provide them in cloud and on-premises environments. We support Sony's software development in a wide range of areas from embedded devices to web services. We are working on CI/CD acceleration, automated test code generation, automated bug detection/repair, etc. by utilizing software engineering techniques, cloud technology, and generative AI.
